NEO: Reliable Iron Giveaway!!--CLOSED

Winner!:

* * *
Do you ever play the I wish game?  You know, where you think with a very selfish mind all the things you wish, but live without because you just can't have every little whim of your heart?  That's really how this whole Sewing Studio came about.  Ryan mentioned something that bothered him and that he wished and I joined in the game and wished that I could have a place to set up my ironing board instead of loading it in and out of the closet for every little pressed crease.  Then I thought, why stop wishing there?  Let's wish for a whole room to sew in!  And that's when Ryan came up with the brilliant and oh-so-generous plan of a Sewing Studio/Art room.
When I began planning this room, I thought, how cool it would be to replace my $20 teflon soleplate, never-hot-enough iron with an orange one!  And I'm usually a form over function kind of gal, but when it comes to ironing, I'm as rigid as an ironing board.  I want an iron that works and that works well.  I grew up using my mom's Rowentas.  Rowentas are the best, I was taught, but every single iron my mom had [and still has!] Leaked with a capital L.  So, as I began to research irons I was in awe that I a) not only found an orange iron, but b) it had reviews over and over of how it didn't leak.  I was so excited to test it out.

A few things I love about the Velocity V50 Reliable iron:  It is simple.  Not too much to figure out.  I read the manual in about 4 minutes and was an expert.  There are 4 heat settings controlled with a single button on top.  The steam buttons are on the side for both left and right handed seamstresses.  One click turns that steam power ON!  You don't have to press it over and over to get some sauna action going on.  You can even use the steam feature in the upright position for clothes hanging up or curtains, if you happen to have the desire to steam your curtains[?].  Although it only has 7 steam holes on the stainless steel soleplate, you do not need any more than that.  Promise.
It has all your fabric temperature info on the bottom--it's there, but not obnoxiously printed everywhere.  It also has a 360 degree ball hinge on the cord, because when I get ironing, I can't have ANYTHING holding me back in my contortion pressing.
One more feature that I find attractive is that although it has auto shut-off [every 8 minutes of un-use] you can override it by holding down the steam button.  I don't dare use this feature, though, because I guarantee I will not remember to turn it off.  I'm dependable like that.
Sorry for the blurriness.  Pearl helped me with this shot, that we took a couple dozen times before I called it good enough.
And here's the seductive, mysterious shot of my new love.

To sum it up:
  • Left or Right hand steam button: an unbiased iron.  How thoughtful.
  • 360 degree swiveling cord
  • beautiful, CONTINUOUS steam [one of my favorite features]
  • Simplicity
  • Stainless Steel Soleplate
  • Auto shut-off override
  • NO leaking!
  • The most important: it works.  It just irons well.
  • ps. it's orange.
I can't think of any major drawbacks except that it's not the lightest of irons.  I prefer a heavier iron so that the workload of pressing down is done for me by the iron, but some people don't like that.  It also doesn't have a "spray" feature, but I always keep a spray bottle next to my iron anyway [because when I want something sprayed, I want something sprayed], so that's a non-issue for me, but might bother others.

  9. Guess what, Katy!? I have YOUR old rowenta! The one that the steam doesn't work. Ha ha. So, I think it only right that your little sis should get a new iron, don't you think? :)

  10. My iron just died - right after burning some silk, of course. I could totally use this!

  11. Since my current iron leaks water faster than I can put in it and soaks my board...a new orange iron would be awesome! Would look great in my new sewing room with green, aqua, and brown!

  12. I have been looking for a new iron - this one might be it! I didn't get to finish my daughter's Easter dress for Easter Sunday, so to finish that is my "pressing" issue!

  13. I'm trying to sell my house because I'm in love with a different one. Love the orange iron!

  14. wicked! I recently acquired orange chairs for my kitchen table -- which happens to be where I do most of my ironing on a little table top ironing board -- so this would fit right in!

  15. That's the COOLEST looking iron ever! Thumbs down for ironing clothes. Two thumbs WAYYYYY up for ironing FABRIC!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I could totally use a new iron. I bought one a few years back and every time I spray steam onto the fabric some funky junk also comes out. I've tried making sure there is no water in the iron between uses but it doesn't make a difference. Plus my favorite color is orange and has been for a long time.

  17. Wow, I never thought an iron could be so pretty.

  18. I am laughing aloud as I read this. a) I think we sew people are the only people who read the directions for an iron and b) today I entertained my toddler with singing into my iron ( which cost me $10 at Walmart 6 years ago) now that is pressing :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't think I've ever fallen in love with an iron before. I desperately need a new one as mine is a piece of junk. I have a "pressing" birthday gift to finish up that I know would look even better if I could use this iron on it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I do not have an iron because I refuse to buy a cheap one since my old one died. Saving my money for a GREAT one!! Maybe I will win this one!! That would be AWESOME!!

  21. Tell you something pressing?
I have to go potty... that is a very pressing matter :) My dog has been home for 9.5 hours... he is probably experiencing the same pressing situation. I have to leave work in 9 minutes and should finish up what I'm doing, mildly pressing :)

And speaking of pressing... I hate ironing... because mine is a big heavy beast and it hurts my arm and had. Would love to win this orange beauty! :)

  22. Not only do I have a pressing need for a new iron, my husband would also do back-flips over this one! I am married to a meticulous man who irons his shirts and slacks to perfection each and every morning. We've gone through countless irons in our 10 years of marriage and still haven't found one to please both the seamstress and the professional presser in the family!

  23. The only things really pressing in my life is all of the spaces that need cleaning. And I would love a new iron. I do so many different types of projects that just one is never enough, especially when some end up with things on them. I would love to win this beauty.

  24. The most pressing issue in our house is the fact that I keep stealing our family iron from the laundry room and carrying it downstairs to my sewing space. I'm starting to fear that my husband will kick me to the curb if he has to continue to go schlepping down the stairs in his knickers to get the iron before he can iron his pants in the mornings:)

  25. Ohhh, I have looked at those irons for a while and wondered if they were worth the money. Good to know they are! My husband ironed his work shirt with my good iron and now it has gunk on it from the logo! I'd love a new non-leaking iron!

  28. The only iron in our home is now 15 years old. I bought it to take to COLLEGE that many years ago, and if it cost even $15, I'd be surprised. Needless to say, it isn't hot enough, always leaks, has an annoying fixed cord that gets in my way ALL THE TIME. Luckily, we don't do much with ironing clothing around here. But many's the time I've turned the air blue while trying to press a sewing project. kaseymgm (at) gmail (dot) com

  29. Oh I so need a new iron! It's one of those things, just like your post, that is always a wish, not a priority! Between having a big family and all my projects, I iron a lot! Would love to win, thanks for the chance! :)

  37. If an iron can be pretty, this one is. So far so good on my Rowenta I got for Christmas a few years ago in the leak department, but part of the plastic casing that covers the steam button is coming off the iron and simply will NOT go back. Annoying.

  40. I need a new iron badly!!! And an ironing board cover is another thing :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh, what a great prize! My poorly designed iron leaks so much that I don't even put water in it anymore. And the super-short cord shoots off to one side (the wrong one of course), so I'm always having to tuck the cord under my hand as I iron so that I don't it by mistake. Boo! But yay for lovely orange irons! Thanks for the chance to win.

I guess that is my pressing dilema that my beloved rowenta that never turned it self off is now dead. Now I have a stupid iron that won't stay on while I am sewing. I sit down to sew some thing and it doesn't have the patiance to wait for me.

  124. MY iron is not only a leaking, not-hot-enough 10-year-old beast from Kmart, but it's also boring old WHITE and has wax paper stuck to the plate! And I'm lazy when it comes to pressing my sewing...I need some motivation! katiefewell (at) gmail (dot) com

  125. I use my iron a lot, and I can't remember the last time I had to iron an article of clothing. I'm always using it for sewing. It would be so a.w.e.s.o.m.e. to win this gorgeous number. Thanks for the review and the giveaway!

  126. Gorgeous!

I bought my iron from goodwill 11 years ago for $2.99 when I was a very, very poor college student. In fact, the price sticker is still on it :) It still works but has no steam and is seriously from the 1970s.

  128. I would love that lovely new orange iron... My lovely blue iron fell off my ironing board one day this past fall... and poor thing hasn't produced any steam since. (do you know how hard it is to press without steam?)

  129. What a fabulous giveaway! I feel like a nerd being so excited over an iron, but would it ever make a difference. I would love to have an iron that works. Mine is decent, but it just takes too long to get a proper crease, or to remove wrinkles. I don't like to spend 30 mins ironing a single item. I love that this iron is orange.

  130. Would be amazing for the little time I get for sewing anymore with my little toddler getting into everything, my mommy time has been limited to when he is sleeping with my husband deployed for the year. Since time is "pressing" it would be amazing not to have a cheap 20$ iron that takes forever to heat up not to mention the repressing that I feel like I have to do, even with the heat turned way far up! I love to sew, seriously every free minute I can get away from cleaning or yardwork, laundry ext. I am sitting by my little machine or scanning blogs for some fun new sewing projects I would love to start!

  197. I recently painted my front foyer a lovely burnt orange color that I LOVE!!! A real departure for me & I surprised the whole darn family when I came home with that color!

My pressing story is that I am still using the same ironing board I had in college. It came from my Aunt's second husband's backyard. Who knows how long it had lived out there. It's now been in my keeping for 27 years. I try to compensate for it's shortcomings by getting better irons, but they _always_ leak. Very disappointing. I'm not ready to give up on the ironing board, so maybe a new iron in my new favorite color is in order???!!!!
